7 Reasons You Should Be Wearing Gold

Do you know what the best thing is about Fall besides the beautiful falling leaves? All the wonderful jewel tone colors that people will be wearing!! The more life I live, the more I fully believe that what colors you’re wearing has an effect on your mood and actions. I mean, color association is nothing new, I’m just now tapping into how much of a role it can play in your life. So, let’s talk about the most well known color for Fall. You know what it is.. that bright, lush, and posh color of deep gold! I guess it could really be more of a burnt gold, but hey! Use whatever floats your boat.. I’m quite obsessed with the color right now and I want to make all the things in it. In order to give you some inspiration for the upcoming season, here are 7 things that wearing gold is good for!

Living Life Like It’s Golden…

The Bonus Round

Wearing gold is a great way to be fashionable, but it's an even better way to practice self-healing. Gold or yellow is associated with your Solar Plexus Chakra, which is located right above your belly button. Because it controls self-esteem, personal power, and self-discipline, making sure to keep this chankra balanced is an awesome way to cut down on anxiety and boost your confidence!

As someone who deals with anxiety on a daily basis, I have to work to make sure I'm staying balanced, especially within my Solar Plexus. My favorite way to enhance balance is by mediating with and/or carrying crystals like citrine, amber, tiger's eye, and yellow tourmaline. I find that I vibe best with citrine, but you should pick whichever one you feel more drawn too.

Now that you know a little more about why it’s awesome to wear yellow and gold I only have one question for you..

What will you be wearing this Fall in this beautiful color?

Until the next time…

5 Things to Get Excited About for Fall

The 5 SensesAriana CountsComment
Noticing the seasons is a part of high vibe living. I'm sharing 5 things to get excited about for Fall!! | www.TheUrbanCountess.com

Fall. It is a Comin’

Hey Tribe! Fall is fast approaching and I cannot wait till it’s officially here! I don’t ever remember a time that I was so excited to see the gold and red leaves falling in waves and rustling in the wind or being able to throw on my favorite jacket and boots. I also think I’m starting to appreciate Fall a lot more, because it feels like a quiet reflective time. Now, I can’t be the only one who’s ready for the upcoming season, so I thought I would share 5 things to get excited about for Fall!

Noticing the seasons is a part of high vibe living. I'm sharing 5 things to get excited about for Fall!! | www.TheUrbanCountess.com

5 Fall Favorites

  • Festivals! ~ The Hubster and I just went to our first festival for the Fall season and it was everything that I hoped it would be! I love the atmosphere of a big group of people gathered together for a happy occasion like spending out all of our monies for handmade goods. :) We went to the Indie Craft Experience at the Yaarab Temple in midtown Atlanta and had a great time. There were a lot of great vendors and I even found a pair of earrings that I love and that my friends will probably get tired of seeing! Happy times I tell ya..

  • Fall Home Decor ~ Um, who doesn’t love a fall wreath, candle, or a pumpkin or five around the house? I know I do! I look forward to finding just the right spots to put my ceramic pumpkins and buying up a few small real ones to use as table or alter decor. The colors bring such a delicious warmth to the house without a lot of effort and as someone who loves to sit on the couch with a blanket even in the Summer time, you already know I appreciate the extra coziness!

Noticing the seasons is a part of high vibe living. I'm sharing 5 things to get excited about for Fall!! | www.TheUrbanCountess.com
  • Candles ~ I know I mentioned candles briefly above, but I feel like they deserve a category all on there own! Isn’t there something magical about sitting and being warmed by an open flame or just having a shit ton of candles lit to light up a room? Talk about the ultimate ambience! I tend to find myself buying up a lot of candles with different smells when Fall is approaching. I like to have a nice little stockpile, so that when one runs out, I have another already on hand. My favorite candle right now is Bergamot & Mahogany from Paddywax!

  • Yarn Season!!! ~ Yarn addicts... this is our season to buy up the entire stock of yarn at Michael’s, Joann’s, and Hobby Lobby! Let’s not even talk about the luxury yarns from local shops there are to fondle.. Once there’s a chill in the air, I get all kinds of inspired to pull out and play in my yarn! I’ve already made what I consider my first project for the Fall, but there are many many more to come. I’m especially excited about making something with my new Caron x Pantone bundle! I feel a new hat coming in the near future. :)

  • Baking ~ Growing up, the first things I learned how to do in the kitchen were to bake cookies from scratch. I still have fond memories of making chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies with my mom. I know that some people get frustrated with the process, but I love it all. The mixing of dry and wet ingredients, the tasting of batter, seeing it rise and take form in the oven, and the WAH-LA! you magically have some sort of pastry, cookie, bread, or doughnut. Let’s not even discuss the smell of all of these things!

IMG_3631.JPG

Honorable Mention goes to..

As you can see, I’m pretty geeked about all of the things that come with the Fall season, which will be here before you know it. Honorable mention goes to calf boots, pumpkin spice everything(!!!), falling leaves that shower around you, and the Fall line up for new tv shows. Is anyone else going to check out Manifest? I think it’s gonna be really good! Also, for more Fall goodness, head over to my Pin Board to see Fall fashion, foods, and home decor!

What kind of things are you looking forward to for Fall?

The Makings of a Baby Blanket

Baby Blankets n Thangs

I’m excited to say that my first official project for Fall is complete! I suppose it was really an end of Summer project, but it was finished near Fall so I think that counts. Many weeks ago, my friend Amanda and I decided to make a baby blanket for our co-worker. I forgot to buy a gift for the baby shower at work and so I went to my go-to of a baby blanket. I love working up a pretty blanket for a new baby. I mean come on.. It’s always the perfect gift AND it was made with love and by hand. You can’t really beat that now can you?

Anytime I need inspiration for a creative project, I tend to turn to Pinterest. I knew that making granny squares would be the easiest thing for us to do individually. For those that don’t know, granny squares are small crocheted squares that can be sewn or crocheted together to make a blanket, scarf, or etc.. Think of an old lady blanket that you’ve seen on tv that’s like brown and yellow (God-awful colors together) and that’s your typical 1970’s granny square blanket. I digress though.. So, we found a pattern that seemed relatively easy from @SpinCushions, took a crack at it, and it worked out wonderfully!

The Process

I have a strict policy on colors for baby blankets... NO p a s t e l s EVA! I know that’s everyone’s go-to, but why? Bright, bold, and fun colors are so much better in my humble opinion. Amanda went along with it and so we met up to pick out colors for a baby girl. After much trial and error of matching colors, we decided to go with purple, hot pink, and yellow. I had (and still have) a shit ton of yellow in my stash from a previous project (see here), so I pretty much demanded yellow be one of the colors used. I promise I’m not a diva.. lol. With all of these bright colors though, Amanda thought it would be best to have a neutral color surrounding all of the bright colors, and so an idea was formed and blanket making was in motion!

To my surprise this granny square blanket worked up really quickly. I know you're saying it's, because Amanda and I were both working on it, but I don't think that was it. Don't get me wrong.... Fours hands are much better than two, but I think it was just a really quick project in general. We made all of the colorful circles first, next we added the borders to turn them into squares, and then finally we crocheted the squares together which gave it lovely ridges along the seams.

Let's Do It Again

I liked this pattern so much that I could see myself making other things with it as well. Something like a scarf, a purse, maybe even a full adult size blanket! You never know what could come out of it..

What kind of colors would you like to see in a baby blanket if you could choose?

Until the next time..

Moon Vibes Tribe

Happy Gemini season!! As a fellow Gemini, I couldn't be happier that my Gemini twins are all celebrating their birthdays. Even this month's new moon was in Gemini. This zodiac sign is ruled by Mercury which is in charge of all communication and critical thinking. In true Gemini fashion, I've been in my head a lot lately which can be a good and a bad thing, but before we get into all of that let me tell you the happenings! Every month on the new moon, I like to tell you what personal and professional intentions I’ve set and I invite you to share yours too. I'm a little tiny bit late seeing as the new moon was on the 13th, but better late than never! Also, check out my Pinterest pin board here and send me a request so you can join in on the fun and post your intentions too!

Previous New Moon Intentions

  • Complete the big project I was designing
  • Journal everyday
  • Make and edit a video to share on YouTube

One of the lessons I learned last month was, everything doesn't have to turn out perfectly and can change into something else entirely. When I've set goals in the past, if they didn't turn out to be exactly as I pictured them, then I was not a happy camper. I would feel like a downright failure, which as any perfectionist will tell you is unacceptable! In an attempt to show myself some grace, no matter how my intentions turned out to be, I decided to be okay with it. I realized it wasn't really about reaching the goal (altho I did want to be successful), it was more about actually giving it the old college try instead of sitting around and waiting for it to happen.

As far as the intentions that I set last month, here is the update: I was working on a project unlike I had ever worked on before, because I was trying to design something I was unsure of how to make. I would work it up, just to take it all apart again and again. At some point, I understood that it just wasn't meant to be right now. I'm not giving up on it, but I did set it to the side to be worked on at a later date and I'm okay with that. I wanted to journal every. single. day. for at least a month and altho that didn't happen, because I made the effort to journal whenever I could, I did end up feeling much less stressed and more clear headed for it. And the ever looming YouTube quest.. I made a video. A couple videos actually. Didn't post them to YouTube. (haha!) What I did do though was learn how to edit my videos, understand that I don't need to pay for editing software at this time, and one of the videos I made did get posted to Instagram! So ta-daaaa!

How did you do with your intentions last month?

Gemini New Moon

1. Setting time limits - It's not that I mean to procrastinate, it's just that I will be faced with a task that I'm unsure of how to do (or let's be honest, don't want to do) and then next thing you know an hour has passed and nothing has gotten done. I've always been one who needed time to think and plot out exactly what my moves will be, but.... sometimes that turns into procrastination. Here's the cycle: "I have a task, but I'm not sure where to start. Let's look at examples for inspiration. Ooh look! This other thing over here looks super interesting.. Oh wait.. what was I supposed to be doing again?? Oh yeah, that task I was unsure of. Dammit! It's time to do _______. Guess I'll pick this back up tomorrow." Knowing myself as I do, I know that setting time limits to get things done is a really good motivator for me to pull some magic out of my ass. So that my friends, is the way I plan on helping myself stay on task and be more consistent.

2. Read till my eyes fall out - Not really, but I would like to make time to do more reading. I have bought numerous books off of Amazon and have only attempted to read one or two. I'm in the midst of reading 'Braving the Wilderness', by Brene Brown and by golly I am going to finish it before the month is out!!

It’s a Beret Kinda Thing

Inspired by my grandmother, I'm showing you my favorite beret to make! |It's a Beret Kinda Thing| www.TheUrbanCountess.com

Forever a Classic

Summer is finally here and I couldn’t be happier! I’m a yarn addict till the end, but I must admit that even I have a hard time picking up my yarn and staying inspired during the warmer months. There’s just something about the warm weather that makes me what to explore the city and have many a cookout.

Having finished up all of my winter projects, for half a second I was unsure of what I wanted to make next. Then all of a sudden it hit me like a ton of bricks, “Make a beret!” my intuition said, and so I listened. As I scoured the internet for just the right pattern, I thought about my grandmother who used to wear beret's quite frequently. In the back of my mind I felt like I needed to find one that she would approve of. I think she would like this one just fine. :)

Inspired by my grandmother, I'm showing you my favorite beret to make! |It's a Beret Kinda Thing| www.TheUrbanCountess.com

I think berets are such a classic look. It doesn’t matter if they are trendy or not, you can still wear one and feel good about what you have on. This red one is the first one that I made and it worked up beautifully without a hitch! As I do with everything that I make, I tried it on myself first to see how it would fit. To my surprise it fit very comfortably on my head and didn't fall off! I have a lot of thick hair and sometimes it's impossible for hats like this to stay on my head, but I'm here to tell all the thick haired girls, this hat is perfect for us!

Inspired by my grandmother, I'm showing you my favorite beret to make! |It's a Beret Kinda Thing| www.TheUrbanCountess.com

It is my goal to find and work at least two craft shows this year. Doing a craft show always begs the question of what to take and in what colors? I think this little beret is a winner and one that I wouldn't mind making a lot of.

What colors would you like to see this in and what would you wear with it?

Until the next time,

Moon Vibes Tribe

Oh happy day! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been taking a much needed break. I got spring cleaning fever really bad so I’ve taken to cleaning up all of the things that I’ve neglected over the busy winter season. Now it’s time to open up the windows, sage to bring in good energies, and plan, plan, and plan some more for the next busy season. Every month on the new moon, I like to tell you what personal and professional intentions I’ve set and share them on Pinterest. Check out the pin board here and send me a request so you can join in on the fun and share your intentions too!

IMG_3225.JPG

Taurus New Moon

1. Complete My Frankenstein! – Since taking my break, I’ve had a super big burst of creativity (which I’m loving!!) and I’ve got about 4-5 drawings of things I want to make. First on the list is going to be a new take on a shawl. I got the idea from always being cold at work and wanting something to just cover my upper body without it being as old-fashioned and cumbersome as a shawl. I’ve already started it, frogged it, and started it again to make it look like the image in my head. The goal is to set a due date (05/31) to finish it, write up a pattern for it, and notate any changes that I want to make. I’m so excited about seeing the finished product, but I plan on adding some really fun and badass elements!

2. Write all the Things – A few weeks ago after being completely exhausted and burnt out I realized that the pace I was trying to keep just wasn’t working for me. I needed to find a way to slow down and do things in my own way. I was feeling lost and out of place and whenever I feel that way I try to revert back to my basics. Simply put, journaling. A big stress reliever for me is writing out all of my problems. I used to write almost every day and I think that helped to keep me sane! So my goal now through the next new moon in June is to write. Write everything! The good, the bad, the joys, the tears, the fears, and the triumphs. All of it. I can’t run a business if I’m not mentally healthy, right?

3. Learn YouTube (Finally) – I’ve been talking (to myself mainly) about really sitting down and figuring out how to edit my videos so I can start a YouTube Channel. I think I’ve just been in my head about it too much. In my mind it needs to look professional, which means it should look as clear as possible, have music, an intro, and outro, words that pop up, slides, clips of vlogging, and not to mention all around perfection. Haha.. Perfection is not really possible and I’ve discovered that I’ve been overthinking things a bit! So the goal here is to do what I gotta do it get it edited and published by May 18th! The butterflies… they are a dancing.

I infuse Reiki energy in each item I make. The type of intended energy that is used is per the color and what it already helps with and corresponds too. I think surrounding yourself with certain colors is important. It's no different that when you wear a red dress, because it helps you stand out and feel confident. So, pick out the color you are most drawn too and see below what each color means.

  • Brick Red - |Root Chakra| - Courage, joy, & renewal
  • Purple & Green - |Crown & Heart Chakra| - Harmony, growth, intuition, & wisdom
  • Sky Blue - |Throat Chakra| - Peace, spirituality, & tranquility

New Moon Intentions| Let's talk about new moon intentions! I'm sharing my goals to find inspiration and be more creative. Come share yours too! www.TheUrbanCountess.com

|Under the New Moon|

Greetings Tribe!

You know that girl who likes tarot cards, burns sage to smudge her house, and wears crystals all of the time? Yeah well, I’m that friend. Friends like that also are really into the moon. Looking at the moon, wearing moon jewelry, and living by the moons phases too, and I am no different. So we’re here to talk about setting intentions for the new moon or what some call the dark moon today. Setting intentions or goals around this time is perfect, because energies are calm and your mind has a chance to be clear unlike during a full moon. Ever heard of people going bananas during a full moon? Yeah well, it’s true. Even I have a hard time sleeping when the full moon is near with all of its “go go let’s do and analyze all the things” energies. Everyone sets goals and intentions for themselves and I like to set mine monthly, so here are a few of the one’s I’m wanting to concentrate on for my small handmade business.

|Good Vibes Only|

Giving Myself Permission – When trying to get your business where you want it to go, it’s really easy to get caught up in doing nothing but business tasks and only leaving a small tiny bit of time for actually making the things you love. Which as you can guess, leaves zero time for reading books and looking at the things that really inspire you! I recently went through a creative block for the simple fact that I had forgotten to pour inspiration into myself. So, I hereby give myself permission to take time to relax, read, and do all the things that bring me joy. Adulting is hard period, so this will be a twofold treat!

New Moon Intentions| Let's talk about new moon intentions! I'm sharing my goals to find inspiration and be more creative. Come share yours too! www.TheUrbanCountess.com

Explore New Crafty Lands – Have you ever noticed that creative people are never just creative in one way? I know that when running a business, the so called “best practice” is to stick to one thing and do that really well. But, I don’t really like that rule! What’s wrong with having a few options? Hell, department stores and Wal-Mart sell a little bit of everything so why can’t I?! {SIDEBAR: Did you know that Wal-Mart sells coffins of all things???} I said all that to say, I’m ready to explore new crafts that I’m interested in like embroidery or cross-stitch. Have you some of the amazing embroidery artist on IG? Their work is phenomenal and I’m so in love with it! So who knows what the future may hold. If nothing else, I will have fun and find inspiration from it.

How to Use Handmade Coasters & Cup Lids| Hate how your coffee or hot tea gets cold too quickly? Use handmade coaster and cup lid to keep your drink warm and cozy! www.TheUrbanCountess.com

Last week, I showed you my current wip (work in progress) the coaster and cup lid sets. I’m happy to have settled on a final design and color options as well! I was going to make different designs, but then figured why not keep it simple? I'm really pleased with the look and functionality of everything. I did a right fine job too! I might be a little biased tho’. :::wink:::  So let’s get into how these puppies work!

How to Use Handmade Coasters & Cup Lids| Hate how your coffee or hot tea gets cold too quickly? Use handmade coaster and cup lid to keep your drink warm and cozy! www.TheUrbanCountess.com

|Fancy Drinking Etiquette|

  • Steep On! – If you’re a fellow tea drinker, then you know all too well the perils of waiting for your tea to steep. Often times, I will put my tea bag in the cup with the intention of letting it steep for maybe five minutes or so. And then 15 minutes later when I remember my tea, it’s too cool and the perfect drinking temperature is gone! It’s been exposed to all that open air and the heat has just slipped right on out of the cup. But alas, no more!! I can really kind of forget about my tea for a little while now, because it’s covered by the cup lid. Granted… it’s not straight from the kettle piping hot, but its mosdef still hot enough to enjoy! Sometimes… I have to remove the cup lid in order for it to let my tea cool down. So yeah, this is one of my favorite features!
  • Fake is Fine - I've chosen to make these with a synthetic yarn, as opposed to a natural fiber for the simple fact that it will be easier to wash. I know I don't want to have to pull out some Woolite every time things get a little dirty and I'm sure you don't either. While hand-washing is always going to be the best option for any yarn-ish type of item, you will have the option to throw the coaster and cup lid in with the rest of your laundry.
  • Let's Break a Sweat - On the flip side of the coin (or drink?), I especially like using the coaster when I'm drinking a cold beverage. It works wonders on absorbing the condensation! Whether its glass or wood, I don't worry about anything seeping through. I have also been known to use the coaster and cup lid with a glass of wine while chilling outside. You really don't have to worry about flies or wasps trying to have their own pool party in your drink!
  • Tea Party for One, Please! - I'm just gonna put it out there that these are freaking cute and people will always remark on your coaster and cup lid set. They are a great conversation piece and will give you all the cute and dainty feels. I mean.. is there really anything else to say after that?

So these are the main reason why I love these little guys so so much! You know.. Other than the fact that I made them. :) Keep a look out for the coaster and cup lids being available on my Shop Page and use coupon code NEWTRIBE to get 20% off your purchase in my Etsy Shop!

Until the next time my friend..

|Coasters and Cup Lids:  A Love Story|

Over the past couple of years, I’ve had this idea rolling around in my head to make coasters and cup lids. It started out as an invention out of necessity, as most things do. So, once upon a time, I used to work next to a warehouse. I was in a small room where eight to ten of us sat and there were a couple of doors that connected to said warehouse. People would come in and out of these doors all day and if you’ve ever worked in or visited a warehouse then you’ll know that it’s just like being outdoors. There is major dust, spider webs, and bugs. Lots and lots of bugs!

I'm a tea drinker. I like to have my tea every morning, especially while I’m working and I like to sip on it over the course of a few hours. As you can imagine, having an open cup in an area such as this can be problematic! After getting up to go talk about business matters (or hangout..) I would come back to drink my beloved tea and there would be gnats in it! (the horror!) How dare they throw their little gnatty bodies into my warm and comforting tea! I wasn’t about to change out my favorite tea cup and saucer for something ugly that happened to have a lid. So, I decided to just make my own lid with some scarp yarn I had and a coaster to go along with it, because… why not? Then something magical happened! Not only did it keep the gnats out of my drink, it also kept it hotter longer! I’d say it’s a win-win, right?

Now that I have a basic design, I can get a little more creative and refine it to what I feel works best. I've tried a couple different designs for the lid, but the dome is the original and my favorite. It allows you to fill your cup up pretty full and not worry about it touching your drink. Of course, as I’ve mentioned before, these are still a work in progress so more colors will become available later.

Which colors would you like to see?

Until the next time my friend..

Coffee + Croissants + Crochet

Dear Tribe,

It’s been quite a minute since we’ve sat down with a coffee, some croissants, and a little crochet action, but I’m so happy to be back! I’m going to share with you what’s been going on, but first! Let me give you the deets of what I’m working with while we’re talking.

  • Coffee - Cinnabon with French Vanilla Creamer
  • Croissant - Plan buttery goodness
  • Crochet - Currently working on a new double strand purple and gray scarf with fringe (and I’m geeked about it!!!)

I think there are a lot of times when it’s nice to peek behind the curtain when it comes to businesses. The plan is to share with you the ups and downs of small business life, so let’s just jump right in!

I Did Things My Way

There are many goals that I’m wanting to accomplish with The Urban Countess and I’m the type of person that wants everything done in the “right” way. I know you’re thinking, ‘well what in the hell is the “right” way?’ It used to mean that I would do a bunch of research on what I wanted to accomplish, see how my favorite people went about it, and try and implement it myself. I’m a perfectionist if nothing else (which will surely get you in trouble every time!!), but I figure if I’m going to have a business and one that is a trusted place to buy from, then I want everything to look just so. Not to copy anyone, but just to find a good framework that would work for me to get me where I wanted to be. The thing is..... those frameworks work for other people so well, because they are who they are and they’ve found what works for them. I was so concerned about doing things the “right” way, that I wasn’t allowing myself to do things my way.

Nothing ever really felt like it fit just right. There was something that always felt icky or seemed to go awry. In hindsight, it just makes sense, because I’ve always been someone who needed to do things my way. Kinda like trying to learn math. Math is my arch nemesis. To put it plain, I am where math goes to die! Haha! Or so I thought anyway... Teachers would have you believe that their way was the only way to figure out a problem, when in reality there are three other ways that  you could comprehend much better.

Moral of the story is, learn what has been tried and true, but ultimately you have to do things in your own way and in your own time. Not just in business, but in life too. Even though I’ve been crocheting and selling my merch for many years now, I’m still at square one when it comes to treating my craft like a business and not a hobby. So, yeah I’m still growing and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Have you found yourself having to start back a square one on something in your life that you felt you should be further along with? Share it with me in the comments!

Long Orange & White Winter Scarf

Hello Dear Tribe!

It was one of my goals this year to finally FINALLY finish this scarf that’s just been sitting around the house for the past year. That’s right… I said a year! Sometimes, when you’re making all the things, you run out of yarn. (Gasp! The horror!) When this happens, you have two choices. Run out and get more yarn and pray you remember what you bought in the first place or start a new project in the meantime until you can go for a yarn run. I chose door #2 and moved on to a new project. This obviously was a mistake seeing as in it’s been a year now. But! The important thing here is that it’s done, done, and done and I couldn’t be happier. So let me introduce you to the Urban Dream Crème scarf!

May I Present to You..

When I tell you that this is my most favorite scarf I’ve made to date, I am not exaggerating! The Urban Dream Crème Scarf, is my own pattern and design, so you can rest assure that you won’t see every Sue, Amber, and Trina wearing this scarf around the cold city streets. I like making and wearing accessories that are a little different and that you won’t see everyone wearing. It allows you to stand out, be an individual, and be a trendsetter all in one!

I’m more of a color blocking kinda girl, but when designing this scarf I thought it was important not only to make it chunky and warm, but to also consider what colors would be fun to wear. Bright colors can be such a wonderful and cheerful thing and I think we need more bright and colorful accessories to adorn our bodies with. I’ve never been one for wearing only navy blue, black, and brown in the colder months, so this is my contribution to rebel against the status quo!

Intentional Design

I designed this scarf using a burnt orange, because orange is associated with creativity and creativity always comes from a happy place. Plus, who can't use some creative juices in their life? Cream was chosen as a secondary color, because not only does it compliment orange really well, it's also a symbol of protection. So in essence you’re protecting your joy and creativity! Pretty cool, right?

I made this scarf with two strands of yarn so that it's extra warm, it's over 8 feet long so there is plenty of room for wrapping it around yourself, and it has lustrous long fringe to give it a nice pop! As with all of my merchandise, I always infuse some good Reiki vibes into them and this guy will be no different. My intent is to not only help someone look good in the accessories they're wearing, but also to help them through energy healing as well. To find out more about Reiki you can read this post here. To purchase this scarf you can visit my shop by clicking this here!

New Goals for a New Year

New IntentionsAriana CountsComment
New Intentions.png

Hey Tribe!! Happy New Year!

Of course with the new year being here, the thing on everyone’s mind is new goals and new intentions. To me, the beginning of the year is like being reborn and given this shiny and new clean slate to start life with. In all actuality, we can start over and/or reinvent ourselves at any time. I think the new year just makes it feel that much better, because there is a big celebration around it. Plus, how can you not feel super charged when there are so many other people around the world using their energy to do that same exact thing. We won’t even talk about the fact that the 1st was a full moon!! Whew!

At the start of most new years, I find myself giddy at the excitement of the possibilities of new and good things coming to me. This year felt a little different. I wasn’t terribly giddy, but felt more of what I would call peaceful. Kinda self assured that all manners of good things were going to come into my life. And even if they didn’t, then I would make it through the trials just fine.

New Intentions and Thangs

The biggest thing that I’ll be working on this year is being more of myself. Whether it be around people who I interact with on a daily basis or sharing myself in matters concerning The Urban Countess. I look forward to really showing you guys who I am and what my brand is all about. I think it's important to stay true to who you are, because it allows you to connect to other people and find your tribe!

The second thing I’ll be working on is being patient. When it comes to having patience with others, I can give it in abundance. If it’s with myself, I always seem to think I should be able to run before I can even crawl! I think having realistic expectations of myself and how much I can get accomplished will help with this.

So tell me dear tribe, what are your goals and intentions for this new year? Where do you see yourself headed? I'm excited to hear what you have planned!

Have a great week!

Yours truly,

A.C.

Putting in Work

Greetings Tribe!

As the introverted person that I am, while I shy away from uncomfortable (and needless) small talk, I do enjoy a good one on one conversation about life. There is something so satisfying about being tucked away in the corner so to speak, with someone and connecting soul to soul. This is the reason I’m here today writing this post to you.

I will admit that over the years I have struggled a lot about how much of myself to share over these mighty interwebs for fear of the inevitable troll, but also mainly fear of people actually seeing me for who I really am. As someone who likes to stand back and observe the room before taking any action, this is a really scary thing! I would describe it as willingly walking out in public naked. Lol.

However, I’ve reached a point in my life where as Lisa Nichols says “You must hold fear in one hand and passion in the other.” I realized that I want to share who I am, be as authentic as possible, help people when I can, and continue my passion which is my small business. So I invite you to not only ogle my pretty wares, but to also take this journey of growth with me. 😃  Are you working on yourself as well? Share with me what your goals are.

Tarot Card of the Week

|Knight of Pentacles|

The knight of pentacles calls on us to pay our dues and work hard at what we want to achieve. Having an idea and inspiration is a great thing, but if you aren't putting any work into making the dream a reality, it won't come to pass. It's time to finally take that long to-do list you've been making and setting a plan in motion to get it done. Working hard is never a really fun process, but no one ever said you had to enjoy it! Staying consistent and keeping your eyes on the prize will help you make it through. Just don't forget to practice self-care along the way. You can do this and I'll be working right beside you!

Have a lovely week!

Yours truly,

A.C.

Why I Love Reiki

Why I Love Reiki.png

Greetings Tribe!

I feel like there are a lot of people out there who don't know exactly what Reiki is. With it being a big part of my everyday life and business, I thought I would tell you my story and relationship with energy healing. Reiki by definition is:

"A healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being."

Many years ago, when I was trying to claw my way out of the mean reds over a major break up that I had, I discovered Reiki. I was watching that reality show called Ruby, where a woman {of course named Ruby} who lived in Savannanh, GA was trying to lose a lot of weight. I absolutely loved watching this show and was obsessed! So when Ruby went and had a Reiki treatment done I just thought it was the best thing ever! It also helped that I was already curious about metaphysical stuff anyway, so I set out on a journey to find out what Reiki was.

As most of my research starts out, I scoured the Internet for info and I bought the $5 book from Barnes and Noble to give me the history and basics of Reiki. Long story short, I was interested enough to get attuned to practice Reiki and eventually I joined a meetup so I could get some real world experience. Being a part of that meetup group and having a Reiki treatment done really was a turning point for me in my emotional well-being. The healing that was done really forced me to look at the pain I was holding onto instead of just pushing it down and ignoring it. It also made me evaluate my self worth at the time and understand that I needed to take much better care of myself. From that point on Reiki combined with meditation, has really helped me do some serious self-healing mentally and physically.

Why I Love Reiki.jpg

The Woo Woo Life

I know this might all sound really out there and woo woo as people like to say, but it's actually great fun and a bit mysterious which is probably why I like it so much. I've been practicing Reiki for six years now and I still love it. It's a pure no holds barred energy healing and that's why I love infusing my crochet projects with it. It's one of my goals to send out as much positivity as I can into the world and this is a major way I've found that I can do this. {Outside of random acts of kindness, that is..} 😛

With that being said, I also feel like I need to include that like with anything else in this world that is of a spiritual nature, Reiki is something that I choose to believe works. I've seen it and felt it and I'm simply here to spread knowledge about it. Anyone can learn how to use Reiki and I hope that this at the very least has piqued your interest enough to find out more information about, because it really is a wonderful practice!

Light & Love,

A.C.

As a disclaimer... In no way, form, or fashion, do I proclaim to be a Reiki Master (which is a thing) nor do I guarantee that any healing energies on my items will heal someone of any aliments mental or physical.
