Fall. It is a Comin’

Hey Tribe! Fall is fast approaching and I cannot wait till it’s officially here! I don’t ever remember a time that I was so excited to see the gold and red leaves falling in waves and rustling in the wind or being able to throw on my favorite jacket and boots. I also think I’m starting to appreciate Fall a lot more, because it feels like a quiet reflective time. Now, I can’t be the only one who’s ready for the upcoming season, so I thought I would share 5 things to get excited about for Fall!

5 Fall Favorites

  • Festivals! ~ The Hubster and I just went to our first festival for the Fall season and it was everything that I hoped it would be! I love the atmosphere of a big group of people gathered together for a happy occasion like spending out all of our monies for handmade goods. :) We went to the Indie Craft Experience at the Yaarab Temple in midtown Atlanta and had a great time. There were a lot of great vendors and I even found a pair of earrings that I love and that my friends will probably get tired of seeing! Happy times I tell ya..

  • Fall Home Decor ~ Um, who doesn’t love a fall wreath, candle, or a pumpkin or five around the house? I know I do! I look forward to finding just the right spots to put my ceramic pumpkins and buying up a few small real ones to use as table or alter decor. The colors bring such a delicious warmth to the house without a lot of effort and as someone who loves to sit on the couch with a blanket even in the Summer time, you already know I appreciate the extra coziness!

  • Candles ~ I know I mentioned candles briefly above, but I feel like they deserve a category all on there own! Isn’t there something magical about sitting and being warmed by an open flame or just having a shit ton of candles lit to light up a room? Talk about the ultimate ambience! I tend to find myself buying up a lot of candles with different smells when Fall is approaching. I like to have a nice little stockpile, so that when one runs out, I have another already on hand. My favorite candle right now is Bergamot & Mahogany from Paddywax!

  • Yarn Season!!! ~ Yarn addicts... this is our season to buy up the entire stock of yarn at Michael’s, Joann’s, and Hobby Lobby! Let’s not even talk about the luxury yarns from local shops there are to fondle.. Once there’s a chill in the air, I get all kinds of inspired to pull out and play in my yarn! I’ve already made what I consider my first project for the Fall, but there are many many more to come. I’m especially excited about making something with my new Caron x Pantone bundle! I feel a new hat coming in the near future. :)

  • Baking ~ Growing up, the first things I learned how to do in the kitchen were to bake cookies from scratch. I still have fond memories of making chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies with my mom. I know that some people get frustrated with the process, but I love it all. The mixing of dry and wet ingredients, the tasting of batter, seeing it rise and take form in the oven, and the WAH-LA! you magically have some sort of pastry, cookie, bread, or doughnut. Let’s not even discuss the smell of all of these things!

Honorable Mention goes to..

As you can see, I’m pretty geeked about all of the things that come with the Fall season, which will be here before you know it. Honorable mention goes to calf boots, pumpkin spice everything(!!!), falling leaves that shower around you, and the Fall line up for new tv shows. Is anyone else going to check out Manifest? I think it’s gonna be really good! Also, for more Fall goodness, head over to my Pin Board to see Fall fashion, foods, and home decor!

What kind of things are you looking forward to for Fall?

Until the next time..

|Coasters and Cup Lids:  A Love Story|

Over the past couple of years, I’ve had this idea rolling around in my head to make coasters and cup lids. It started out as an invention out of necessity, as most things do. So, once upon a time, I used to work next to a warehouse. I was in a small room where eight to ten of us sat and there were a couple of doors that connected to said warehouse. People would come in and out of these doors all day and if you’ve ever worked in or visited a warehouse then you’ll know that it’s just like being outdoors. There is major dust, spider webs, and bugs. Lots and lots of bugs!

I'm a tea drinker. I like to have my tea every morning, especially while I’m working and I like to sip on it over the course of a few hours. As you can imagine, having an open cup in an area such as this can be problematic! After getting up to go talk about business matters (or hangout..) I would come back to drink my beloved tea and there would be gnats in it! (the horror!) How dare they throw their little gnatty bodies into my warm and comforting tea! I wasn’t about to change out my favorite tea cup and saucer for something ugly that happened to have a lid. So, I decided to just make my own lid with some scarp yarn I had and a coaster to go along with it, because… why not? Then something magical happened! Not only did it keep the gnats out of my drink, it also kept it hotter longer! I’d say it’s a win-win, right?

Now that I have a basic design, I can get a little more creative and refine it to what I feel works best. I've tried a couple different designs for the lid, but the dome is the original and my favorite. It allows you to fill your cup up pretty full and not worry about it touching your drink. Of course, as I’ve mentioned before, these are still a work in progress so more colors will become available later.

Which colors would you like to see?

Until the next time my friend..
